Word processing allows you to go back to your document and make changes to improve its appearance. You can:
- Change the text itself by deleting and inserting words
- Change the order of your text by cutting and pasting
- Change the style, size and colour of your text
To change a particular word or section of text you can choose from the methods below:
- Highlight it - This can be done by holding down the mouse and dragging the mouse pointer over the block of text.
- Double Click – If you want to highlight just one word you can double-click on top of it
- Click - Shift - If you want to highlight just one sentence you can click at the beginning of the sentence. Then, pressing the shift key, click again at the end of the sentence.
Open up your ‘Myself’ document and make the following changes:
- Insert the following sentence at the beginning of your paragraph: ‘My favourite food is chicken’
- Cut out the sentence you have just inserted and paste it somewhere in the middle of your document
- Delete the sentence after it has been checked by your teacher

Experiment with different fonts and font styles. Which are most effective and why?
It can be very time consuming if you create a number of different styles throughout your document, and then have to apply them to different pieces of text. One way around this is to use the 'Format Painter'.
Try this example:
- Create a style for a piece of text using different fonts, font sizes and styles
- Highlight the new piece of text using one of the three methods described in 'Editing'
- Click on the 'Format painter' brush. If the format painter brush is not showing on the formatting bar then click on the double arrows at the end of the formatting bar ('>>').
- Highlight the text you want to apply the style of formatting to.
- The new piece of text should now have the same style.
